Australia Fights for Animal Rights
This October, just after we celebrate Food Day in the United States, another country will be focusing on their food and where it comes from. Australia, home to many of our health coaches, will host the Cruelty Free Festival in Sydney, Australia with the hope of raising awareness of animal cruelty in the country, and educating people on how they can help put an end to it.
Animal cruelty is a big problem in Australia, as it is in the rest of the world.
Just like in the United States, Australia is faced with the devastatingly cruel treatment of farm animals in factory farming. Hens are kept in battery cages, sharing the space with several other hens, where they are forced to lay eggs and may never experience life outside of the hen house. Chickens that are raised for meat are fed growth hormones, causing them to grow at an unnaturally fast rate, putting pressure on their heart and joints, which have to work overtime to support their growing bodies.

As the world continues to battle rising obesity and diabetes rates, it seems that health coaches are more important than ever. What were you doing before Integrative Nutrition?
Running my own business importing and supplying specialty foods for people with multiple allergies.
What led you to explore Integrative Nutrition's program?
Every day I'd have new customers on the phone asking me all sorts of questions about what to feed their child, and how to get them to try new foods. I really wanted to be able to offer more advice but felt I wasn't "qualified" enough to do it, even though I had been doing a special diet with my son for 7 years after his autism diagnosis and knew the power of food in healing. When I finally learned about Integrative Nutrition, I was so excited, as this was exactly what I was looking for!

A little bit from Sarah…
Hi, I’m an Australian journalist and blogger and a very recent Integrative Nutrition graduate. I’ve been asked to share with you why I chose the Integrative Nutrition Health Coach Training Program. The short answer is that I had an illness—an autoimmune disease—that I wanted to understand better. I thought by immersing myself in the program I’d be able to steer myself on a path to wellness and then help others feeling as isolated and lost as I was. Twelve months later and I can tell you that my immersion was very successful!
Along the way I noticed that a lot of Integrative Nutrition students were suffering from an autoimmune disease and were after a platform to share information. I also noticed that many of my readers with the illness wanted to learn more about holistic ways of eating and healing.
To this end, I thought I’d share with you some of my thoughts on autoimmune disease. A lot of my reflective thoughts were inspired by, or are aligned with the principles taught in the Integrative Nutrition program – bioindividuality, crowding out, etc. Please join the discussion at my blog if you want to learn more.
